DETAILED ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


A. TERTIARY PROGRAMMES
1. BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (B-TECH) DEGREE IN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY
PROGRAMME DURATION
The programme duration is eighteen (18) months consisting of three semesters, with one semester being a six-month
internship with industry.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
i. Applicants must hold a good HND (Second Class Upper Division or Better) in Building Technology or
allied programmes with at least one year relevant post qualification experience. Applicants with HND
Second Class Lower Division must pass a selection interview before they could be considered.
ii. Candidates with Construction Technicians Course Part III or Part II old Scheme with five good passes
including Construction Practice, Applied Technology and Site Experience and Construction Project
Work plus good passes in either Land Surveying or Measurement of Construction Works with their
project work shall be admitted. Candidates with some passes in G.C.E ‘O’ Level or SSSCE/WASSCE
or similar qualification would be an added advantage.
NOTE: In addition to the above entry requirement for CTC Holders, applicants will go through a
bridging course or Pre-B-Tech programme for a minimum of three months organized by the
Polytechnic and should pass the stipulated courses before they are enrolled fully on the B-Tech
programme.


2. BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (B-TECH) DEGREE IN ACCOUNTING WITH COMPUTING
PROGRAMME DURATION
The programme duration is 18 months consisting of 3 semesters.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A. HND Accountancy Applicants
Holders of Full HND Accountancy Certificate
B. ACCA and ICA Applicants
Applicants with 7 passes or more papers of ICAG, ACCA, CIMA or equivalents


C. Advanced Diploma in Computerised Accounting
Holders of Professional Diploma in Computerised Accounting with credit passes (SSSCE A- D), WASSCE (A1 -
C6) in the three core papers of English Language, Core Mathematics and Social Studies/Integrated Science or
Equivalent from a recognized Tertiary Institution


D. First Degree
Applicants holding NAB Accredited degrees will be interviewed.
3. HND ACCOUNTANCY
PROGRAMME DURATION : 3 YEARS (6 SEMESTERS)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A. SSSCE/RSA II (NEW SCHEME) APPLICANTS:- Credit passes (A – D) in three (3) Core subjects
(English, Mathematics/Business Mathematics, Integrated Science/Core Science or Social Studies and
credit passes (A – D) in two (2) Elective subjects ( i.e. Introduction to Business Management (IBM),
Accounting, Costing and Business Mathematics or Economics, Elective Mathematics, Geography).
Candidates with the requisite Science subjects can also apply.


B. WASSCE APPLICANTS:- Credit passes (A1–C6) in three (3) Core subjects (English,
Mathematics/Business Mathematics, Integrated Science/Core Science or Social Studies and credit passes
(A1 – C6) in two (2) Elective subjects ( i.e. Introduction to Business Management (IBM),Accounting,
Costing and Business Mathematics or Economics, Elective Mathematics, Geography. ) Candidates with
the requisite Science subjects can also apply.


C. GCE ‘A’ LEVEL/RSA LLL APPLICANTS:- Candidates must have passes in three (3) business related
GCE ‘A’ Level subjects or RSA Stage lll Passes in Business related subject. In addition to the above
requirements, candidates must have GCE ‘O’ Level or RSA II Credit passes in 5 subjects including
English and Business Mathematics.GCE ‘A’ Level Candidates must have a pass in General Paper.


D. DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS STUDIES APPLICANTS (DBS):- Applicants who hold DBS with
Distinction or Credit from GES accredited institutions are eligible for admission to level 200 of the HND
Accountancy programme. DBS applicants who hold a Pass would enroll at level 100. In all cases applicants
would be required to have four (4) credit passes in WASSCE/SSSCE/ RSA II including English and
Mathematics.


E. LCCI / CITY AND GUILDS PITMAN’S QUALIFICATION:- Candidates must have the Advanced
Certificate in three (3) relevant subjects plus five (5) passes at the Intermediate Level including Business
Mathematics/Calculation and English Language.
F. MATURE APPLICANTS
i. Must be at least 25 years old
ii. Must be engaged in Accounting related work for at least two years.
iii. Must pass a written examination and an interview.
iv. Must show proof of date of birth with any national document which is at least 5 years old at the time of
application.


OR
i. Must be at least 25 years old
ii. Must be engaged in Accounting related work for at least two years.
iii. Must show proof of credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE

4. HND MARKETING
PROGRAMME DURATION: 3 YEARS (6 SEMESTERS)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A. SSSCE/RSA II (NEW SCHEME) APPLICANTS:- Credit Passes (A – D) in three (3) Core subjects
(English Language, Mathematics/Business Mathematics, Integrated Science/Core Science or Social Studies
PLUS two (2) credit passes (A – D) in Business Electives (Introduction to Business Management,
Accounting, Principles of Cost Accounting or Secretarial Electives (Introduction to Business
Management, Typewriting, Clerical Office Duties) or Geography, History, Economics and Elective
Mathematics).


B. WASSCE APPLICANTS:- Credit Passes (A1 – C6) in three (3) Core subjects (English Language,
Mathematics/Business Mathematics, Integrated Science/Core Science or Social Studies PLUS two (2)
credit passes (A1 – C6) in Business Electives (Introduction to Business Management, Accounting,
Principles of Cost Accounting or Secretarial Electives (Introduction to Business Management,
Typewriting, Clerical Office Duties) or Geography, History, Economics and Elective Mathematics).


C. GCE HOLDERS
i. Five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language and Modern Mathematics.
PLUS
Three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes including Business Management or Economics or Accounting
plus General Paper.
OR


ii. RSA Stage ll/Ghana Commercial Examinations Stage ll with passes in five (5) subjects including
English Language, Accounting, Business Mathematics, Economics/Commerce/Marketing / Information
Technology.

Three (3) RSA Stage III passes one of which must be Credit.
D. DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS STUDIES APPLICANTS (DBS):- Applicants who hold DBS with
Distinction or Credit from GES accredited institutions are eligible for admission to level 200 of the HND
Marketing programme. DBS applicants who hold a Pass would enroll at level 100. In all cases applicants
would be required to have four (4) credit passes in WASSCE/SSSCE/ RSA II including English and
Mathematics.


E. LCCI / CITY AND GUILDS PITMAN’S APPLICANTS:- Candidates must have the Advanced
Certificate in three (3) relevant subjects plus five (5) passes at the Intermediate Level including Business
Mathematics/Calculation and English Language.
F. MATURE APPLICANTS

electives (Physics or Applied Electricity, Elective Mathematics/Engineering Mathematics, Chemistry or
Technical Drawing/Engineering Science).


C. CERTIFICATE II HOLDERS
Certificate II Applicants with Passes in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects (English,
Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus three (3) passes in relevant elective subjects.
D. PRE-HND (ACCESS COURSE) PROGRAMMES
Holders of all three (3) passes in Access course programme conducted by the NABPTEX in addition to
elective subjects that are electrical/electronic related are eligible to enroll on the HND Electrical/Electronic
Engineering at level 100.


E. GCE HOLDERS
Five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and
Chemistry.

Two (2) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry.
OR

6. HND BUILDING TECHNOLOGY
PROGRAMME DURATION: 3 YEARS (6 SEMESTERS)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A. SSSCE APPLICANTS:- Credit Passes (A – D) in three (3) core subjects(English Language, Mathematics
and Core Science / Integrated Science) plus two (2) credit passes (A – D) in the relevant elective subjects
(Physics, Chemistry and Elective Mathematics or Technical Electives or Economics & Geography.


B. WASSCE APPLICANTS:- Credit Passes (A1 – C6) in three (3) core subjects(English Language,
Mathematics and Core Science / Integrated Science) plus two (2) credit passes (A1 – C6) in the relevant
elective subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Elective Mathematics or Technical Electives or Economics &
Geography.


C. CERTIFICATE II HOLDERS
Certificate II Applicants with Passes in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects (English,
Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus three (3) passes in Blocklaying and Concreting, Carpentry and
Joinery and Plumbing Installation.


D. PRE-HND (ACCESS COURSE) PROGRAMMES
Holders of all three (3) passes in Access course programme conducted by the NABPTEX in addition to
elective subjects that are building technology related are eligible to enroll on the HND Building
Technology at level 100.


E. GCE HOLDERS
(i) Five (5) G.C.E. ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Technical
Drawing and a Science subject.
AND
(ii) Two (2) G.C.E ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry.
E. Ordinary Technician Diploma (OTD)
F. Construction Technicians Course Part ll (old scheme) certificate with five (5) passes including
Surveying or Measurement plus Construction Technicians Course Part I (old scheme) Certificate.

Construction Technician Course Part III (new scheme) plus CTC I and II

7. HND HOTEL, CATERING AND INSTITUTIONAL MANAGEMENT
PROGRAMME DURATION: 3 YEARS (6 SEMESTERS)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A. SSSCE/RSA II (NEW SCHEME) APPLICANTS:- Candidates must possess three (3) Credit Passes (A –
D) in Core English Language, Core Mathematics/Business Mathematics and Core Science/Intergrated
Science, and credit passes (A – D) in Two (2) elective Subjects.
Elective Subjects:
Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Elective Mathematics.
General Arts: Geography, French, Economics, Government/History.
Vocational: Food and Nutrition, Management in Living, Clothing and Textiles, Living Arts,
General Knowledge in Arts.
Business: Accounting, Introduction to Business Management (IBM), Principles of Cost
Accounting, Business Mathematics and Economics.
Agricultural Science: General Agric, Elective Chemistry, Horticulture.


B. WASSCE APPLICANTS:- Candidates must possess three (3) Credit Passes (A1 – C6) in Core English

passes (A1 – C6) in Two (2) elective Subjects.

Holders of all three (3) passes in Access course programme conducted by the NABPTEX in addition to
elective subjects that are hotel, catering and institutional management related are eligible to enroll on the
HND Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management at level 100.
E. APPLICANTS WITH PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess Certificates in cookery Part l (8121) and Cookery Part ll (8122), Plus five (5) G.C.E
.‘O’ Level Credit passes including English Language and Mathematics, or five (5)
SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English Language and Mathematics or Science.


F. DIPLOMA IN INSTITUTIONAL MANAGEMENT

Candidates must possess GCE ‘O’ Level with credits in five (5) subjects including English

Business/Mathematics and Integrated Science/Core Science or Social Studies plus two (2) credit passes

C. DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS STUDIES (DBS) APPLICANTS:- Applicants who hold DBS with
Distinction or Credit from GES accredited institutions are eligible for admission to level 200 of the
HND Secretaryship and Management Studies programme. DBS applicants who hold a Pass would
enroll at level 100. In all cases applicants would be required to have four (4) credit passes in
WASSCE/SSSCE/ RSA II including English and Mathematics.

Certificate II Applicants with Passes in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects (English,
Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies) plus three (3) passes in relevant elective subjects.
E. RSA III HOLDERS: Candidates must possess three (3) passes plus five (5) RSA II, ‘O’ Level, or
SSSCE including Mathematics and English.

A. SSSCE APPLICANTS:- Three (3) credit passes (A – D) in core subjects (English, Mathematics, and
Integrated Science) plus two (2) credit passes (A – D) in relevant subjects (Chemistry, Physics, Economics,
Biology, Elective Maths, Horticulture, Geography, Agriculture Extension, General Agric, Animal
Husbandry)
B. WASSCE APPLICANTS:- Three (3) credit passes (A – D) in core subjects (English, Mathematics, and

PROGRAMME DURATION
The programme duration is eighteen (18) months consisting of three semesters, with one semester being a six-month
internship with industry.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
i. Applicants must hold a good HND (Second Class Upper Division or Better) in Building Technology or
allied programmes with at least one year relevant post qualification experience. Applicants with HND
Second Class Lower Division must pass a selection interview before they could be considered.
ii. Candidates with Construction Technicians Course Part III or Part II old Scheme with five good passes
including Construction Practice, Applied Technology and Site Experience and Construction Project
Work plus good passes in either Land Surveying or Measurement of Construction Works with their
project work shall be admitted. Candidates with some passes in G.C.E ‘O’ Level or SSSCE/WASSCE

 7th Congregation of Sunyani Polytechnic (S-Poly Newsletter. September, 2014)

 

The 7th congregation of Sunyani Polytechnic was held on Saturday, 30th August, 2014 at the school's auditorium where 2013 graduands received Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degrees in Building Technology; and various awards in Higher National Diploma (HND) including Accountancy, Marketing, Secretaryship and Management Studies, Building Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management, and General Agriculture. 

 

The total number of graduands for 2013 was 1,024 out of which 26 had first class, 401 had second class upper, 509 had second class lower, and 88 had pass. The overall best graduand for the academic year was Miss. Monica Agyemang Safo who had first class in HND Secetaryship and Management Studies.The ceremony attracted a large number of people including government officials, chiefs, parents, guardians,students and members of the press.

The purpose of the visit is to prepare the framework of next phase of JICA technical cooperation project through collecting data and information on the details of  National Expansion programme, institutional capacity of NBSSI, needs of enterprises on human resource development, possibility of collaboration with vocational training institutes.

The Ghana Higher Education Fair was opened at the Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) in the Brong Ahafo Region to provide relevant information on higher education institutions in the country to assist students in the senior high schools to make informed choices about their future careers. This gave prospective students insight into programmes, application procedures, qualifications, career paths.Sunyani Polytechnic sent a delegation led by Dr Henry O. Sintim (Dean, School of Applied Science & Technology) and Mr Emmanuel Amponsah (the Polytechnic’ Public Relations Officer) to the 8TH HIGHER EDUCATION FAIR. The Polytechnic rented a 6 sq. m stand and showcased their academic programmes, research and community services in applied science, engineering and business. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates seeking admission to the HND Mechanical Engineering programme must possess one of the following categories of qualifications:
(a) West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE or WASSCE)

(i) Passes in the following three core subjects: English, Mathematics and Science (Integrated/Core Science).
(ii) In addition, passes in any three of the following elective subjects: Engineering Science, Physics, Chemistry, Elective Mathematics, Metal work & Technical Drawing.  The cumulative aggregate must be 24 or better (or its equivalent for WASSCE candidates).

(b) General Certificate of Education (GCE)

(i) Advanced Level: Passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry;

 

PROFESSIONAL COURSES.

MOTOR VEHICLE TECHNICIANS (MVT) PART 1

PROGRAMME DURATION: 1 YEAR (2 SEMESTERS)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1.    A good pass in Motor Vehicle Mechanics (MVM).
                              OR
2.     The equivalent of MVM.
                              OR
3.    WASSCE/SSSCE candidates with average pass in English Language, Mathematics and three relevant elective subjects (Physics, Auto Mechanic and Technical Drawing).

PROGRAMME DURATION: 3 YEARS (6 SEMESTERS)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
A. WASSCE/SSSCE/RSA II (New Scheme) Applicants: - Passes in three (3) Core subjects (English             Language, Mathematics/Business Mathematics, Integrated Science/Core Science or Social Studies PLUS three (3) passes in Business Electives (Introduction to Business Management, Accounting, Principles of Cost Accounting or Secretarial Electives (Introduction to Business Management, Typewriting, and Clerical Office Duties) or Geography, History, Economics and Elective Mathematics).  The Cumulative Aggregate must be 24 or better.

B. Five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language and Modern Mathematics. PLUS Three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes including Business Management or Economics or Accounting plus General Paper.
                           OR
ii. RSA Stage ll/Ghana Commercial Examinations Stage ll with passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Accounting, Business   Mathematics, Economics/Commerce/Marketing / Information Technology. PLUS Three (3) RSA Stage III passes one of which must be Credit.

                            OR
Five (5) passes in Diploma in Business Studies (All Options).
1.    LCCI / City and Guilds Pitman’s Applicants:  Candidates must have the Advanced Certificate in         
three (3) relevant subjects plus five(5) passes at the Intermediate Level including Business Mathematics/Calculation and  English  Language.

D. MATURE  APPLICANTS

  1. Must be at least 25 years old
  2. Must have at least five (5) GCE ‘O’ level credit passes or 5 SSSCE passes including English Language and Mathematics or 5 RSA II passes  including English Language & Business Mathematics.
  3. Must be engaged in professional practice for at least two years and exhibit appreciable communication skills.
  4. Must pass a written examination and an interview.
  5. BECE Certificate is a prerequisite for SSSCE/RSA II /   WASSEC applicants

CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF MARKETING (UNITED KINGDOM)
